U.S. decrees that marijuana has no accepted medical use
The decision comes almost nine years after medical marijuana supporters asked the government to reclassify cannabis to take into account a growing body of worldwide research that shows its effectiveness in treating certain diseases, such as glaucoma and multiple sclerosis.
Advocates for the medical use of the drug criticized the ruling but were elated that the Obama administration has finally acted, which allows them to appeal to the federal courts. The decision to deny the request was made by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and comes less than two months after advocates asked the U.S. Court of Appeals to force the administration to respond to their petition.

New cybersecurity plan pushes private-sector role
The strategy, called the first unified plan incorporating DOD’s military, intelligence and business operations, lays out five pillars for defending against cyber attacks. Several of those pillars specifically address civilian help. Defense contractors and Internet service providers are expected to play an integral role in cyber defense.

As part of the strategy, the Pentagon created a 90-day pilot program involving AT&T, Verizon Communications and Century Link, the Internet service providers to a handful of defense contractors. They are given access to classified defense information to help protect against attacks by cyber hackers. After the program ends this summer, the Defense Department would like to expand its civilian cyber security base to allow dozens of companies to participate.

Plenty of Americans have expressed concerns about the security of America's
borders. Kurt Howland is one who has done something about it.
Howland is among citizens who travel to the Arizona-Mexico border region to
help patrol illegal activities, such as unauthorized border crossings and
drug smuggling.
In an age of heightened concerns of terrorism and drug smuggling at the
border, illegal immigration has become an issue viewed in very different
ways through different lenses. Howland's activities, for example, are viewed
by some as heroic. They have also gotten him noticed in an unflattering way
by the Anti-Defamation League of Florida.

Guns in Arizona: Sales at record pace
Guns are selling at a record pace this year at sporting-goods stores and
specialty shops in Arizona, creating millions of dollars in revenue for
retailers.
The ability to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, general
apprehension and lingering concerns that the Obama administration could
crack down on gun ownership are among the sales drivers.
In Arizona, it is likely that more than 200,000 new weapons will be put in
buyers' hands after background checks this year. That figure doesn't include
firearms purchased at gun shows and through private transactions. Such
non-tracked sales are thought to account for 40 percent of all sales, adding
about 150,000 guns purchased annually. The estimated sales total: about
350,000 guns per year.

Fed planning for potential default
The Federal Reserve is actively preparing for the possibility that the
United States could default as a deadline for raising the government's $14.3
trillion borrowing limit looms, a top Fed policymaker said on Wednesday.
Charles Plosser, president of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve Bank, said
the U.S. central bank has for the past few months been working closely with
Treasury, ironing out what to do if the world's biggest economy runs out of
cash on August 2.

New Mexico connection--innocent citizen jailed for cooperating with ATF
The importance of the New Mexico connection lies in the fact that an
innocent citizen sits in jail on bogus charges, charges that fail to
recognize that his 'crimes' involved nothing more than doing what he was
told by law enforcement acting on behalf of ATF agents as they made straw
purchases of firearms from his gun shop in Columbus.
Ian Garland owns and operates 'Chapparel Guns' in Chapparel, New Mexico,
which is located near Columbus. In late 2009 or early 2010 the police chief
and mayor of Columbus came into Garland's store and told him that they
wished to purchase high-powered firearms--AK-47s--to give to their families
for protection against Mexican drug cartels. According to records, Garland
followed the law, obtaining the necessary background checks, completing the
required paperwork, and receiving the expressed agreement of the ATF.
--- Everyone needs to be contacting their elected public servants in the
district of commie criminals and letting them know that this will not be

Ron Paul Launches Nationwide Grassroots Campaign to Stop Debt Ceiling Betrayal
2012 Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul has launched a major effort
to mobilize grassroots opposition to a deal on the debt ceiling that is
rumored to be in the works between the Obama administration and House
Republican leaders.
“The fact is, Republicans were put back in power during the last election to
stop the runaway spending in Washington, D.C.—not to cut “deals” that
increase taxes and spending,” said Paul.

U.N. Arms trade treaty endangers our most basic right
The United Nations is planning on its Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) being
finalized in 2012, after this mid-July saw another session of talks of the
Third Preparatory Committee on the ATT. The UN’s ATT final agreement
negotiations set for four weeks next summer will be under slightly different
rules of “consensus” rather than a majority vote. With over 100 arms-control
organizations in attendance and lobbying hard this year, a consensus for the
ATT will easily be reached.
Many of the arms-control groups like Amnesty International (AI) and Control
Arms pushing for the ATT are blatant about their goals. A spokesman for
Control Arms says all arms and all weapons deals must be controlled. AI
insists the biggest arms suppliers are the United States, France, Belgium,
the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, the UK and Italy. However they ignore
the worst transgressors of illegal trafficking like Russia and Albania.

EA has had to remove our Trident bullets in .223, 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC. The BATF has ruled that all of these cartridges are now pistol cartridges. Since they are now pistol cartridges their construction now falls under the content and construction limitations of the 68 GAC and pistol cartridges.

Ex-cop says he helped cover up Katrina shootings
A former police detective testified Monday that he participated in a plot to
fabricate witnesses, falsify reports and plant a gun to make it seem police
were justified in shooting unarmed residents on a New Orleans bridge after
Hurricane Katrina.
Jeffrey Lehrmann, a government witness in the federal trial of five current
or former officers, said he saw Sgt. Arthur "Archie" Kaufman retrieve a gun
from his home several weeks after the deadly shootings on the Danziger
Bridge. Kaufman later turned the gun in as evidence, claiming he found it
under the bridge a day after the 2005 shootings that left two people dead
and four others wounded.

Sign the Cut, Cap and Balance Pledge
Despite our nation’s staggering $14.4 trillion debt, there are many Members
of the U.S. House and Senate who want to raise our nation’s debt limit
without making permanent reforms in our fiscal policies.
We believe that this is a fiscally irresponsible position that would place
America on the Road to Ruin. At the same time, we believe that the current
debate over raising the debt limit provides a historic opportunity to focus
public attention, and then public policy, on a path to a balanced budget and
paying down our debt.
We believe that the “Cut, Cap, Balance” plan for substantial spending cuts
in FY 2012, a statutory spending cap, and Congressional passage of a
Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution is the minimum necessary
precondition to raising the debt limit. The ultimate goal is to get us back
to a point where increases in the debt limit are no longer necessary.

culpability, the FBI had more responsibility for the Gunwalker Scandal than

Federal court rules that naked scans are 'constitutional'
In the opinion [pdf] from the D.C. Circuit Court (the Volokh Conspiracy),
Judge Douglas Ginsburg writes that the advance imaging technology is not
unreasonable given the security concerns on airplanes, and that people have
the option to opt out for a pleasurable patdown. The court notes that some
“have complained that the resulting patdown was unnecessarily aggressive,”
but the judges don’t seem overly concerned about that. Ginsburg writes:
On the other side of the balance, we must acknowledge the steps the TSA has
already taken to protect passenger privacy, in particular distorting the
image created using AIT and deleting it as soon as the passenger has been
cleared. More telling, any passenger may opt-out of AIT screening in favor
of a patdown, which allows him to decide which of the two options for
detecting a concealed, nonmetallic weapon or explosive is least invasive.

Because the US has defaulted before... and (believe it or not) the earth
still kept spinning on its axis.
In 1933, FDR authorized the "Great Gold Robbery," in which, through the
Emergency Banking Act, he was able to order Americans to turn over all their
gold to the government. Later, the Congress passed a joint resolution making
it illegal to "require payment in gold or a particular kind of coin or
currency, or in an amount in money of the United States measured thereby."
In other words, the US would no longer honor the repayment of its debt in
gold, creditors would only receive fiat money in exchange. The US Government
had defaulted.

It’s happened several times now. I show up at the range to work with a new
group of shooters who are supposed to be “past the basics” of shooting.
Operators who the government trusts to move around confined spaces carrying
automatic weapons. As we start warming up I’ll go down the line and make
corrections on stance, grip, trigger control, etc and find out that they nod
their heads in agreement, but when I ask them about the technique, they say
they don’t know what I’m talking about.

Do your senators oppose U.N. gun grab?
The good news is that 30 Senators have signed onto a letter opposing any UN
treaty that infringes on the Second Amendment.
The bad news is that a global small arms treaty could still pass unless more
Senators come out in opposition.
Last week, a so-called UN “preparatory committee” met for the third time to
work on the massive Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Walter Williams says education is worse than we thought
U.S. News & World Report (7/7/2011) came out with a story titled "Educators Implicated in Atlanta Cheating Scandal," saying that "for 10 years, hundreds of Atlanta public school teachers and principals changed answers on state tests in one of the largest cheating scandals in U.S. history, according to a scathing 413-page investigative report released Tuesday by Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal." The report says that more than three-quarters of the 56 Atlanta schools investigated cheated on the 2009 standardized National Assessment of Educational Progress. Eighty-two teachers have confessed to erasing students' answers. A total of 178 educators, including 38 principals, many of whom are black, systematically fabricated test scores of struggling black students to cover up academic failure.

Teacher and principal exam cheating is not restricted to Atlanta; it's
widespread. The Detroit Free Press and USA Today (3/8/2011) released an
investigative report that found higher-than-average erasure rates on tests
taken by students at 34 schools in and around Detroit in 2008 and 2009.
Overall, their report "found 304 schools where experts say the gains on
standardized tests in 2009-10 are so statistically improbable, they merit
further investigation. Besides Michigan, the other states (where suspected
cheating was found) were Ohio, Arizona, Colorado, Florida and California." A
Dallas Morning News investigation reported finding high rates of test
erasures in Texas. Six teachers and two principals were dismissed after
cheating was uncovered.

The debate over the nation's debt crisis turned ugly late Tuesday when GOP
Rep. Allan West unleashed an email tirade on a Florida colleague after she
trashed his support for a GOP budget bill on the House floor.
In an email promptly leaked to the press, West, a first-term tea party
favorite from South Florida, trashed Democratic Rep. Debbie Wasserman
Schultz for her "unprofessional and inappropriate sophomoric behavior" after
she suggested he supported a plan the would raise costs for Medicare
beneficiaries.

Ark. Town Council Bans Civic Group, New Organizations
One of the quintessential ingredients of small-town America is the local civic group, an organization of individuals who attempt to better their community by influencing their local government. Of course, not everyone appreciates their efforts — especially politicians who prefer to do as they please without interference from the people they are supposed to be serving.
In trying to evade local civic groups, however, few local governments have
gone as far as the city council of Gould, Arkansas. First the council passed
an ordinance demanding the Gould Citizens Advisory Council (photo at left) a
group of concerned Gould citizens, cease to exist. Then it passed another
one forbidding the mayor to meet with any organization without the express
consent of the city council. Mayor Earnest Nash, Jr., a member of the group,
vetoed both measures, but the council overrode his vetoes.

“You Can’t Continue With The Status Quo”
Hardly anyone is arguing the principles of liberty! It would appear that the
vast majority of political candidates at every level–or the “conservative”
organizations that support them–do not even understand the principles of
liberty. Hence, the NRA endorses government licensing the “right” to bear
arms. Churches endorse government licensing of the “right” to marry. I even
heard one well-known pro-life, Christian activist say that she didn’t care
about whether a certain pro-life initiative was constitutional or not. The
same could be said for many activists from just about every “conservative”
group.
Why cannot conservatives see the big picture? Why cannot they understand
that either we have liberty for all, or we have liberty for none? Why do we
conservatives look to Washington, D.C., to solve our problems and then turn
around and complain about liberals trying to inject Washington, D.C., into
our lives?
--- Why can't they? Because they don't want to. Knowledge requires
responsibility. There's still too much corn in the trough. Many of he hogs
will be ground into sausage before the survivors see the necessity of what
will be required to fix this mess if it can be fixed.

Obama To Unveil Gun Control Reforms In Near Future
Half a year after the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.), the
Obama administration is set to release a series of reforms to the current
gun law, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Thursday.
The reforms, which are being crafted by the Department of Justice, come
after a series of meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Second
Amendment debate. But in a nod to the difficulties of getting legislation
through a Republican-run House of Representatives, only executive orders or
administrative actions -- and not an actual bill -- are expected to be
handed to Congress.

California Gov. Jerry Brown Signs Law Requiring Public Schools to Teach 'Gay History'
Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a landmark bill adding
lessons about gay history to social studies classes in California's public
schools.
Brown, a Democrat, signed the bill Thursday, making California the first
state in the nation to require public schools to include the contributions
of gays and lesbians in social studies curriculum.
The Democratic-majority Legislature passed the bill last week on a largely
party-line vote.

Republicans should pay very close attention to the Tea Party
In Kentucky there are Republican Party concerns about the insurgents as
well. They deny it, but party leaders worry the organizational skills of the
tea party — demonstrated by the surprising showing of Phil Moffett in the
Republican primary for governor — might soon be directed toward the party’s
organizational structure. That’s what is behind rumors the party planned to
re-write some of its rules a year earlier than it normally takes up those
issues.
Then this week came rumors (accurate it turns out) that Jamie Comer, the
Republican candidate for Agriculture Commissioner, had hired Lexington Tea
Party leader and blogger Mica Sims to organize a grassroots get-out-the-vote
effort in the fall campaign. As the rumor spread in Republican circles,
phone lines burned up and David Williams, the Republican candidate for
governor, reached for heartburn remedies. Sims has been an outspoken,
relentless critic of Williams. Other down-ticket Republican candidates
wondered what is going on and more importantly what it might imply. What is
McConnell’s reaction? Does it mean Comer worries Williams can’t win and his
own fate hinges on his ability to attract Tea Party activists to offset a
potential drag at the top of the ticket? We can only speculate about
McConnell’s reaction, but he no doubt found it interesting.
--- Oh that's funny. McConnell's assistant came to the last Take Back
Kentucky meeting. After she had the mindless audacity to tell us how
McConnell had voted to re-up the anti-patriot act I couldn't help but give
her a piece of my mind, what there is left of it. Some may think I got too
'emotional.' Not enough are getting emotional in the face of this police
state as far as I'm concerned. Too many think we'll win our Liberty back by
being nice to our domestic enemies. They hope we're that stupid.
